Membership Criteria

The International Fire Association (IFA) is synonymous with excellence, integrity, and leadership in the realm of fire safety. As a beacon of quality and professionalism, securing membership within our esteemed network requires adherence to stringent criteria that ensure only the most qualified organizations and professionals are included. Below we outline the essential requirements for membership eligibility.

Minimum Membership Requirements:

To maintain the integrity and high standards of our association, prospective members must meet the following prerequisites:

1. Significant Involvement in Fire Testing: Organizations must demonstrate substantial engagement in the fire testing of materials, components, or products, directly contributing to legislative compliance and the advancement of fire safety standards.

2. Operational Testing Facilities: Applicants must possess in-house facilities and equipment or have exclusive, permanent control over such resources. These facilities must be capable of performing fire tests under conditions specified in at least one of the EN fire testing standards, encompassing either fire resistance or reaction to fire, or both.

3. Accreditation and Recognition: Eligibility extends to organizations that are nationally accredited within Europe, operating in the sphere of fire testing in support of fire safety legislation. Associate members, based outside Europe, must be nationally approved entities in their respective countries, complying with IFA's Minimum Membership Requirements.

4. National Liaison or Peer Approval: We require that applicant organizations are part of a national fire laboratory liaison group, where available. In its absence, approval from existing IFA members within the applicant's country is necessary. Alternatively, an official sponsorship letter or equivalent endorsement may suffice.

5. Uncompromised Independence: It's imperative that members uphold a level of independence where technical judgments are never compromised by external commercial, financial, or other pressures. The credibility and integrity of our members' operations are paramount.
